- Elevate the injured part to lessen swelling. Use chair cushions with pillows or blankets for comfort.
- Ice pack (20 minutes out of every hour) will help with swelling, especially during the first 48 hours. Place ice in plastic bag, cover with cloth. Do not freeze skin. Another good and quick ice bag is frozen snow peas.
- If you have an elastic bandage, rewrap it if it becomes too tight or loose.
- If the part swells anyway or gets cold, blue, numb or tingles, or if pain increases markedly, have it checked immediately.
- In case of problems or concerns, notify the office.
